Helpful hints when purchasing paving

How do I know that I am getting a quality product?

Power Pave uses only products that carry the SABS mark-a guarantee of quality in the South African market. It is important to choose a product that carries the above accreditation in order to be sure you are purchasing a quality product that is durable.

What should I look out for when purchasing paving?

Always take into consideration the type and frequency of traffic the paving will undergo when deciding on the best product for your application. The end product is only as good as the contractor you use.

What will damage my paving?

As concrete is porous it can absorb certain substances. Prevention is better than cure, so try to avoid spilling oil, grease, harsh chemicals, acid, paint, cement powder, concrete, plaster and clay onto your paving.

Will the colour of my pavers wash out or fade?

The colour cannot wash out as it is structurally part of the paver. If there is any colouration in the run-off water after washing, contact the manufacturer immediately.  Fading does occur, but over an extended period of time. This is partially due to UV light and surface wear.

What load can my paving withstand?

It is generally accepted that for light domestic and pedestrian walkways and driveways , pavers of 50 mm  and 60 mm height are used. For light industrial vehicle  and light –traffic roads, pavers that are 60 mm in  height are used, and for heavy industrial paved areas and roads , 80 mm in height are used.

How do I keep my paving clean?

  • There are various methods of cleaning, depending on the type of stain.
  • Oil, grease and clay can be removed with soap, water and a brush.
  • Do this as soon as possible after the stain appears. Sweet off dry excess, then wash and rinse.
  • Cement powder brushes off dry ( try to blow it off  if possible ).
  • Do not use water to remove cement.
  • For concrete, plaster and paint mark, you will need to go to a hardware store for a diluted acid based cleaning product. Take care in following the chemical manufacturer’s instructions and wash off with water as quickly as possible, in order to prevent damage to your pavers.

Who should install my paving?

Choosing a good installer is as important as choosing a quality product.

Incorrectly installed, paving could shift or break as a consequence of sub-base movement. Ask your installer to explain to you what procedures he will follow regarding earthworks, water and drainage as well as installing of pavers and the quality grading of raw materials being used. Get some references on your preferred contractors.

Be careful of hidden costs

Be on the lookout for hidden costs like: final measurement to be done on completion of work.

Any extra rubble removal will be added and paid for.
